Many of the people close to New Zealand nature know how to live. Here is my host and friend John:

Up north there's also a lot of poor people. But what is called poor in western countries, we don't really have poor people.

When you have a place to sleep and you have food, you are not poor. That is really all you need. The people here tell themselves that they need a car and an expensive house because they see it in the media, but they can't afford it.

It is just not true; these things don't make you happy. What you are doing — travelling — is a good bonus, but not everyone can afford that.

Yes! Don't spend money you don't have on things you don't need that you think will, but actually won't make you happy.

I see my travels as a particularly useful luxury.
